Yuri Dreyar, the father of Makarov Dreyar and the biological great-grandfather of Laxus Dreyar, is a lightning wizard who died some years following the birth of his son. Yuri was a self-centered and greedy treasure hunter from Sylph Labyrinth guild. Before founding Fairy Tail, he attempted to steal a sacred treasure from Mavis' home island. Mavis, on the other hand, helped bring out his better character over time, and he became one of her closest friends in exchange.
