Lol this is an annoying aspect of Fallout 4. Preston Garvey will often ask you to do settlement work which gets tedious and sometimes a hassle especially when you just want to do something. It's funny how Preston will promote you to general when you meet him and help him yet will also make you do all the dirty work when you're the one that's supposed to be telling him what to do, haha.
