This photo was taken by Nathan Province in an airplane. The reason behind this color of the clouds is because of the sun angle that illuminates it. I think this is a sunset hence why it looks like smoke and embers. Those clouds look great. It's like it's hot but it really isn't lol. I can imagine it like it's some kind of a giant volcanic crater.
